Preparing for an AC installation

AC installation seems to be quite straight forward. You choose a nice Air conditioner, you call a technician and you get one installed, simple right? Well… maybe that’s a bit too simplified.

It’s a common misconception that the contractor will take care of everything. They might… but those contractors cost a lot too and sure, some people don’t care to pay extra for their comfort, but you might not want to spend that much on a simple AC installation. And to save yourself some bucks and to make your AC installation as smooth as possible you need to know a few things.

Finding the right contractor

Finding a contractor is easy, all you need to do is google something like “AC installation near me in Friendswood TX” or wherever you are. The problem is that not every contractor out there is the same and you need to find
one that suits you best. Look for contractors and get quotes from them. Compare these and find the best deal.
Talk to them extensively and get to know what you need to do to prepare for the installation. Some might do
most of the work themselves and some might require you to prepare, nonetheless, you’ll get a good idea of
what service you’re getting and you can make an informed decision.

Understanding different AC units

Not all Air conditioners are the same. And you need to know the difference and decide what suits you best.
There are three main types of AC units.

Traditional Split systems have become quite common and popular in recent years. They look nice and are efficient. They function as a single closed system and comprises two parts, an indoor unit, and an outdoor unit. They have ducts between these two units and installation requires less planning.

Ductless split systems are the same as the split system but there is not duct. This can make it a bit challenging to find the right place to install these.

Geothermal system is not that common and is quite challenging but the most eco-friendly and efficient system. It uses a ground loop to use the steady temperature underground to either cool or heat your home.
